ネットで動画を見たり購入したりする場合、HD版（720P）とFHD版（1080P）の２種類があります。
FHD版の方が高精細で画質が良いのは分かっているものの、自分のモニターやテレビで見てどの程度違いがあるかは良く分かりません。
そんな訳でどれくらい画質（精細感）に差があるのかを、画像と一緒にご説明したいと思います。
解像度の違い
まず両者の違いを数値で表すと以下の様になります。

この表にある解像度が、精細感を表す指標で、これが大きいほど画質のきめが細かいと思って頂ければと思います。
ご覧の通り、FHD版の画素数が207万画素なのに対してHD版は92万画素しかありませんので、FHD版の方が約2倍高精細（高解像度）だと言えます。
ではこの2倍の差はどの程度のものなのでしょうか？
解像度を同じにした場合の画像の大きさ
ではこの二つの画像が、どれくらい違うかを表したのが下の画像になります。
HD版（1280×720画素）
FHD（1920×1080画素）
この場合、1画素の大きさは同じ（すなわち解像度は同じ）なので、画像の大きさが異なります。
画像の大きさを同じにした場合の解像度の差
次に二つの画像を、同じ大きさのモニターで見た場合にどうなるか見てみます。
動画を見る場合、当然ながら動画をモニター画面一杯に拡大して見る事になります。
その場合の画像が以下になります。（クリックすると拡大されます）
HD（1280×720画素）をFHD相当に拡大
FHD（1920×1080画素）
ちなみに上段の画像は、HDの画像をFHD（1920×1080）相当に拡大したものです。
すなわちHDの画像を、FHDのモニターで見た場合に相当します。
この2枚をお持ちのモニターで全画面表示して見て、明らかに差を感じるのでしたら、FHD版を選択する価値はあります。
ただし殆ど差を感じない様でしたら、HD版で十分と言えます。
凡その目安ですが、27インチ以下のモニターでしたらHD版で十分、32インチ以上のモニターで見るならばFHD版といった所ではないでしょうか。
